Law Clerk Applicants

​All Law Clerk positions with the Supreme Court of New Mexico are full-time, at-will positions. Generally, law students apply for a clerkship during their second year of law school for a term that would begin in September of the following year after graduation. Each Justice accepts applications to serve as a law clerk, and terms offered may be for one or two years. 

The New Mexico Supreme Court Clerkship Opportunities

Justice Vigil is seeking a judicial law clerk for the fall of 2026-2028.

Justice Bacon is seeking a judicial clerk for 2027. The clerkship term runs from September 2027-2029.

Justice Zamora is seeking a judicial clerk for 2027. The clerkship term runs from September 2027-2029.

Applications require:
(1) a cover letter,
(2) a resume,
(3) law school transcript(s),
(4) a writing sample that is a maximum of 15 pages, and
(5) three letters of recommendation.

The writing sample should represent the work of the applicant and may be part of a larger piece. Applications must be submitted through the Court Opportunity Recruitment for All (CORA) platform: https://www.ncsc.org/education-and-careers/cora. Incomplete applications may not be considered. Externship Applications

The Supreme Court Justices, the Clerk’s Office, and the Office of Supreme Court Counsel accept applications for externship opportunities throughout the year.  Externships are unpaid, but the Court will work with extern applicants who wish to use their externship work for school credit.  For more information about externship opportunities, applicants may contact the Clerk of Court or send a letter of interest and resume at nmsupremecourtclerk@nmcourts.gov.
